How Safe is Your Data?
In the 21st century, when we are all so technology savvy, it should be impossible to think that most schools have no system in place to protect and backup important data. The increasingly centralised role which technology is playing in education means that, just as in the corporate world, schools need to think about the implications of data loss. It can be all too simple to dismiss or underestimate the importance of school data.
You might think that Year 5's poetry project was interesting but is it really necessary to worry about preserving that data? Maybe not. But could the same be said of a full year group's GCSE coursework or an entire school's administrative student records? It may be a cliché, but all too often it is only after the data is lost that its real value becomes apparent.
The reality is that schools should be viewing their own data as every bit as mission critical as the sort of files which businesses invest time and effort in protecting. But the issue is that schools have particular requirements, meaning that they need backup solutions designed to work in an educational environment.
